My father was a survivor, serving in the Army Air Corps stationed at Hickam Field. He founded the Wyoming chapter of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association. I am currently the state chairman of the Sons and Daughters of Pearl Harbor Survivors.

Thank you for creating this all important group Tom.

All, check back to the site as we move through November, which saw the Japanese task force steaming towards Pearl Harbor and that fateful day of 7 Dec 1941.

We also have a great Photo Album which was created from photos via GGS member Jim McAndrew.

I had the incredible honor of being the keynote speaker at Natrona County United Veterans Council's Pearl Harbor recognition dinner on 7 December 2009. What a thrill it was to meet two more Pearl Harbor survivors, one from the Oklahoma and one from Hickam Field. I also met a Bataan Death March survivor, an incredible man of faith.

My wife and I are about to leave for Hawaii. In addition to a tour of Pearl Harbor, I have arranged a private tour of Hickam. We are excited to see where the war began for my dad.

I've changed my profile picture to show the flag that flew over Hickam Field the morning of 7 Dec. 1941. It is the same flag depicted in banner for this group. It was a very emotional moment for me.

By SCOTT LYONS

I had the recent privilege of learning World War II history first-hand from Mr. and Mrs. H. Paul Bailey, through in-person interviews. Paul was a U.S. Marine from 1943 to 1946, who fought in the same division, 1st Marine Division (3/7), on Okinawa as Eugene Sledge (3/5), author of With the Old Breed and subject of HBO’s ‘The Pacific’.  Full story »
